Reclaiming the Humanities: Anti-Oppressive Perspectives on Systemic Inequities

The overall objective of this four-volume book series is to utilize interdisciplinary humanities perspectives to investigate systemic and structural inequities facing marginalized communities, specifically Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Grounded in anti-oppressive frameworks, the project aims to analyze complex barriers within societal institutions in order to develop informed strategies for promoting equity.

The significance of this work lies in its potential to extend humanities discourse on racial justice, an area less rigorously addressed in previous scholarship. Applying principles of liberation theory and interpretive research methodologies, an intellectually diverse array of contributors re-envision teaching, scholarship, and praxis. The book series explores overlooked intersections, gives platform to historically excluded voices, and envisions more egalitarian futures within the humanities and connected disciplines.

With a focus on education, economic, political, health, and environmental systems, these volumes assess persistent threats to equal access and representation. They contextualize issues in historical overviews and current landscapes, integrating community perspectives and grassroots advocacy. While exposing systemic inequality, the project also shares local empowerment strategies and reconciliation models to inspire structural change.

By fostering difficult dialogues across racial, institutional, and epistemological divides, this book series serves as a catalyst for transformative action. It represents an intellectual evolution within humanities discourse, advancing anti-oppressive agendas to promote social justice. Through principled inquiry, multidimensional analysis, and inclusive theory-building, the work ultimately strives to uphold the universal human right to knowledge as a conduit for equity.
